SALONE NEWS 2007 in Milan vol.20
Young Generation

2007/04/22
The pictures here are showing the works exhibited at a super studio named ‘NEW CREATIVE GENERATION/THAT’DESIGN’.
The exhibition here seems to be one having been planned to focus on young students, standing against Satellite that has been growing to be ever professional. The problem with the project like this is that its success or its failure is largely judged by the content of the exhibited works there.
The problem with ‘The Japanese Corps’ I already mentioned seems to come from the imperfect capability of its organizer, that makes the consistent idea of the whole vague though each designer seriously works on his or her own creative presentation. The problem here, however, is that while the consistent idea is clear to grasp but its key players, that is, the quality of the works created by them, ‘New Creative Generation’ is too low. It can’t be helped.
The most important principle of the project like this ,I believe, is that some crucial hidden implications are expressed in accordance with its general assertions. And according to them, proper designers should be selected, each one of whom is to be properly guided in terms of the content and the positive will.

From such a viewpoint as this, neither ‘Japan Corps’ nor ‘New Generation’ is successful here.
I feel sorry for saying this but it seems to be unlikely for great works to be created by the young generation happy and satisfied to live in the world now.
